The usage of social media has improved drastically in the world in the recent years. The people across the globe agree to the fact that social media is very important for helping them keep up with political news and other developments happening in the world. A majority of social media users find the information they get on these platforms to be more up to date, informative and focused on issues important to them than what they get from other sources. Where as a section of the users have different thoughts when it comes to the reliability, bias and hateful nature of social media content when compared with other sources. Therefore, social media platforms have faced criticism as well for their lack of trustworthiness and providing unreliable information.

Why isn’t social media a reliable source of information?

Social media platforms have been condemned for their inability to control the spread of misinformation and disinformation. False information can spread rapidly on social media, often without any fact-checking, leading to people believing and sharing false information.
